About Reiki

WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei- meaning light and ki- meaning energy. This hands-on, energetic healing modality brings relaxation and ease to your physical body.

Reiki is Universal Life Force energy, found in everything… from the clouds in the sky, to the waves in the ocean. Reiki is inside of all of us, all of the time.

Discovering how to connect with this beautiful energy can elevate your vibrational frequency and bring more light into your energetic field. It can bring a sense of calm to chaos and can help you feel more centered and grounded.

Negative energy from our own emotions and feelings, or even the feelings of others, past or present, can stick to us and affect not only our own energy… but, also our moods and our physical body. Reiki helps keep the Chakras balanced and flowing, for optimal physical health and well-being.

Reiki is at the root of Mindfulness. It helps you navigate the “now” more clearly and heightens your awareness of the present moment.

WHERE WAS REIKI DISCOVERED?

In the early 20th century, Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk, began healings, which became known in the West as the Reiki System of Natural Healing.

Usui was looking for a way to heal himself and others. It is believed that the aim of his teachings was to provide students with a method to achieve connection with Universal Life Force energy that would help them with their self-development.

WHEN DID REIKI COME TO THE US?

A woman by the name of Hawayo Takata, a Japanese- American, born in Hawaii, helped introduce Reiki to the Western World. While in Tokyo, seeking healing for her own health, she was introduced to Reiki. She stayed in Japan and studied with Dr. Churjiro Hayashi to become a Master Practitioner in 1940. Her teacher, Hayashi, had learned from Usui, the first teacher of Reiki, in the early 1900s. Ms. Takata brought Reiki back to Hawaii with her. She went on to practice and taught Reiki for over forty years.
